Some may have heard about the increasing poverty, unrest, violence and kidnappings in Haiti over the past year. COVID and the repercussions it has had on the global economy has damaged the already weak Haitian economy, and in the face of this increasing poverty people are turning to violence and kidnapping as a source of income. There is also increasing unrest with the government.
On April 11th five priests, two nuns and three relatives of one of the priests were kidnapped and held for ransom. As of April 23rd one lay person and three clergy have been released, but the other six are still being held captive.
Bishop Crosby has asked us to pray for the people of Haiti, and in particular those who have been kidnapped. Please keep them all in your prayers.
