A Year Dedicated to St. Joseph

On December 8, 2020 Pope Francis published his Apostolic Letter, Patris Corde (“With a Father’s Heart”) and declared a year dedicated to St. Joseph. Pope Francis began this special year on the 150th anniversary of the declaration of St. Joseph as Patron of the Universal Church.  As we celebrate New Year’s let us pause for a moment and consider what a year dedicated to St. Joseph of Nazareth might mean for us.

In Patris Corde, Pope Francis expounds on the many attributes of St. Joseph: he was a “beloved father“, a “tender and loving father“, an “obedient… accepting… courageously creative… and working father“; he was a “father in the shadows“.  St. Joseph provided the necessary environment for Jesus to grow up as a man and have the tools to begin his mission here on earth.
