If you are looking for something to fast from this Lent, why not set yourself the challenge of fasting from buying anything new (except groceries and essential toiletries)? For six weeks vow to buy things second-hand, borrow, barter, trade, or do without. You may just discover that some things you thought were essential are not essential after all. You could also discover new channels for second-hand resources such as Freecycle or “Buy Nothing New” groups in your area that are committed to reducing the waste stream.  Check out Facebook’s Marketplace or Buy & Sell groups.
