Friday April 24
Today our pilgrims leave Assisi and head back to Rome. On their way they will stop at the Basilica di Santa Maria degli Angeli. This magnificent church is somewhat at odds with the life of simplicity preached by St. Francis. It was built to accommodate the large numbers of pilgrims which visit the Porziuncola chapel (the initial nucleus from which the Franciscan order was born), and the Cappella del Transito (the place where the saint died on October 4th 1226).
After Mass in the Basilica our pilgrims will head back to Rome. Dinner in their beautiful Hotel Alimandi, and one final evening in Rome.
Lord Jesus, watch over our pilgrims as they begin their journey home. May they return to us enriched by their experiences, and ready to resume the work of your Church in their daily lives. Amen.
