On July 26, the Memorial of Sts. Joachim and Anne, parents of Mary and grandparents of Jesus, and the patron saints of grandparents, Pope Francis asked the young people of the world to reach out to the elderly, especially during this pandemic. The elderly can feel particularly isolated when in person visits are not possible or are severely restricted, as they have had to be to slow the spread of COVID-19.

Although in most cases we cannot give real hugs yet, we invite our young people to respond to Pope Francis call to #sendyourhug in creative ways to the elderly in your lives. Give them a call, visit them outside, send a photo or email, however you can send a hug while following the health guidelines where you live.

Then share how you have reached out on social media using #sendyourhug, and the Dicastery for Laity, the Family and Life may repost your ideas on their platforms. @laityfamilylife
